With 70,4 million tickets sold in 2018 in Turkey. For the first time, Turkish films admissions broke through the 44 million barrier with an increase of 11%.
Turkey, the seventh largest European cinema market, confirmed its leading position in terms of national market share with Turkish films capturing 63% of admissions in 2018.
180 Turkish Films Released and 898 Millions TL in Revenue
With 180 Turkish films which were released in 2018 in Turkey, a new record was broken in this area. In 2018, 257foreign films were released and the total number of films reached 441.
In 2018, Turkish films achieved 544 million TL in box office revenue (+15% compared with 2017). Revenue of movie theater box offices totaled 898 million TL (+4%), which was the highest result by now. Consequently, the average revenue per admission amounted to 12,7 TL in 2018.
Genres / Turkish Comedies on the Top in 2018
In 2018, comedy was the most popular genre among Turkish cinema goers, taking 46% of the admission. Animation films’ market share was 12,1% in Turkey. 51 films were released, 6 of which were Turkish animation. 64 horror films were released in 2018. The market share of this genre was %6,4.
The top was “Müslüm”
The top film of the year was Müslüm. Müslüm released in October 26 and reached 6.344.263 audiences.
14 Films over 1 Million Admissions
In 2018 first place at the box office was taken by Müslüm, with 6,3 million admissions. The Turkish comedy, Arif v 2016, claimed second place, with 4,96 million admissions. Another Turkish comedy film, Ailecek Şaşkınız, was ranked third in 2018, with 4,03 million admissions. In 2018, the five most successful films accounted for 19,6 million admissions, or 28% of the annual total for feature films.
In 2018, 14 films gathered more than 1 million admissions and eleven of the top 14 films were Turkish.

In Turkey there are 432 cinema complexes consisting of 2.921 screens all of which are suitable for digital screening and the number of seats is 358.964.
Turkish Films in Europe
In 2018, 32 Turkish films were released in Europe. The biggest market was Germany and %65 of box office was earned in Germany. Netherlands ranked second, Belgium ranked third.
